Department of Haematology provides a comprehensive, integrated and patient centered services for the diagnosis and management of benign and malignant haematological conditions for inpatients and outpatients. These include anaemias, haemoglobinopathies, coagulation disorders, leukaemias and lymphomas. Department is committed to the provision of a quality laboratory and clinical service.

Department is divided into the following sections:
i. Routine Haematology
ii. Bone marrow Pathology
iii. Coagulation studies
iv. Haemoglobin studies
v. Molecular biology
vi. Cytogenetics and FISH

All the sections have state of the art equipments unparalleled to any national institution. These include:
i. Sysmex XN series fully automated Haematology Analyzer with Autostainer
ii. Sysmex CS-5100, CA-1600 and PFA-200 coagulation analyzers
iii. Vacuette SRS 20/11 automated ESR system
iv. Platelet aggregometer
v. HPLC BioRad D10
vi. Sebia MiniCap Haemoglobin electrophoresis system
vii. Cytovision for routine and FISH cytogenetics
viii. Metasystems fully automated cytogenetics and FISH system
ix. Olympus 18 head teaching microscope with camera, software and display system
x. Applied biosystems real time PCR systems
xi. Applied biosystems genetic analyzers
xii. Illumina Next Generation Sequencing system

Sections of Molecular Biology and Cytogenetics are extending facilities, most of which are not available at any other laboratory, at very nominal rates. Section of Molecular Biology started with conventional PCR for beta thalassemia in 1994. Presently it provides facilities for molecular genetic testing for both benign and malignant conditions. Well qualified and experienced laboratory directors, scientific officers and technicians here are leaders in the field of molecular testing in Pakistan, who continually strive to develop new test methods that improve patient care. They continually work to improve assays by increasing the number of mutations detected and decreasing turnaround time.

Department also has a long and rich tradition of excellence in research and training in Haematology at both undergraduate and post-graduate level.

The faculty and staff are nationally and internationally renowned leaders in their areas of research and expertise, and are committed to advancing the science and practice of Hematology.
